Dear colleagues,

The Process Systems Engineering Workshop (
http://lades.peq.coppe.ufrj.br/pse2011) will be an international event
involving world-renowned researchers. This workshop aims at capacitating
engineers on modern computational techniques applied to the process
industry.

This event will take place in Angra dos Reis (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), at
the Hotel do Bosque, from July 20-28, 2011. It will be comprised of two
modules that address different aspects related to the operation and planning
of the process industry, namely Modeling, Simulation and Process Control
(July 20-23) and Process Chain Optimization (July 25-28):

Module I: Modeling, Simulation and Process Control (July 20-23)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Sigurd Skogestad - Norwegian University of Science and Technology:
"Plantwide Control"
- Thomas E. Marlin (McMaster University): "Increasing Plant Profit through
Real-time Control"
- Jorge O. Trierweiler (UFRGS): "Model Predictive Control: Tuning and
Performance Assessment"
- Marco Antônio Müller (VRTech): "Dynamic Simulation and Process Control
with EMSO Simulator"

Module II: Process Chain Optimization (July 25-28)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Ignacio Grossmann (Carnegie Mellon University): "Models for Planning,
Scheduling and Supply Chain Optimization"
- Lorenz T. Biegler (Carnegie Mellon University): "Large-scale Nonlinear
Programming"
- Benoît Chachuat (Imperial College London): "Global Optimization Methods
and Tools"
- José Luiz de Medeiros (UFRJ): "Exergy Analysis of Chemical Processes"
