In a joint procedure with RWTH Aachen University, Forschungszentrum Jülich
is seeking a DIRECTOR for the Institute of Energy and Climate Research –
Energy Systems Engineering (IEK-10) to start at the earliest possible date
and who will simultaneously in a joint personnel procedure be appointed a
W3-grade professor (Jülich model) of methods for simulating energy systems
at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, RWTH Aachen University.

Applicants should have experience in developing numerical algorithms for
model-based optimization and subsequent software implementation. Research
activities will be focused at the Institute of Energy and Climate Research
(IEK) of Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, where the successful candidate will
co-head the newly founded subinstitute IEK-10 (Energy Systems Engineering).
The main task of IEK-10 is to develop models, simulation and optimization
methods, and tools in the field of energy systems engineering. The
successful candidate should therefore have a documented interest in energy
systems. Potential key topics of the professorship include the scalability
of algorithms with a view to using high-performance computing and big data
analysis. Close cooperation with other institutes is expected at both
institutions. The successful candidate should have a university degree
followed by a PhD or doctorate, teaching experience and be able to
demonstrable additional academic achievements in the form of a postdoc
qualification (Habilitation), a junior professorship, or research work at a
university, research institution, or in some other social sphere (e.g.
industry). RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich are equal
opportunities employers and pursue a policy of excluding all
types of discrimination. Applications from women scientists are particularly
welcome and will be given preference in the case of equal suitability,
qualifications, and experience, unless special personal reasons concerning a
male candidate outweigh these considerations. Attention is drawn to Art. 8,
para. 1, of the Equal Opportunities Act of the Federal State of North Rhine-
Westphalia (LGG). Forschungszentrum Jülich has been certified as family
friendly as part of the “audit berufundfamilie” initiative.
RWTH Aachen University awards its “FAMOS für FAMILIE” prize to executive
staff who have made a special contribution to family-friendly measures. Both
institutions also offer support for dual career couples.
Applications from suitable candidates with disabilities are explicitly
encouraged. This also holds for those with an equivalent
degree of incapacity in the meaning of Art. 2 Code of Social Law (SGB) IX.
RWTH Aachen University has been named as a
disability-friendly employer for its commitment to training and employing
people with disabilities.
Applications can be made in German or in English and should be sent with the
usual documentation (CV, copies of certificates,
list of publications, teaching experience, brief summary of previous
research activities including a list of third-party funding,
research concept for the position advertised) preferably by email before
28 January 2018 to the
Board of Directors of Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH
52425 Jülich
