In a joint procedure with RWTH Aachen University, Forschungszentrum Jülich
is seeking a DIRECTOR for the Institute of Energy and Climate Research –
Energy Systems Engineering (IEK-10) to start at the earliest possible date
and who will simultaneously in a joint personnel procedure be appointed a
W3-grade professor (Jülich model) of methods for simulating energy systems
at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, RWTH Aachen University.
Applicants should have experience in developing numerical algorithms for
model-based optimization and subsequent software implementation. Research
activities will be focused at the Institute of Energy and Climate Research
(IEK) of Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, where the successful candidate will
co-head the newly founded subinstitute IEK-10 (Energy Systems Engineering).
The main task of IEK-10 is to develop models, simulation and optimization
methods, and tools in the field of energy systems engineering. The
successful candidate should therefore have a documented interest in energy
systems. Potential key topics of the professorship include the scalability
of algorithms with a view to using high-performance computing and big data
analysis. Close cooperation with other institutes is expected at both
institutions. The successful candidate should have a university degree
followed by a PhD or doctorate, teaching experience and be able to
demonstrable additional academic achievements in the form of a postdoc
qualification (Habilitation), a junior professorship, or research work at a
university, research institution, or in some other social sphere (e.g.
industry). RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich are equal
