Dear CAST community,

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing. Yesterday afternoon, our esteemed colleague, Babatunde Ogunnaike, passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him. Tunde had waged a sudden and courageous battle with cancer.

Well known for his work in process systems and control, his distinguished career at DuPont, his academic leadership as a senior colleague and dean at UD, and as a member of the NAE, the loss of Tunde will be felt very deeply in our department, across campus, and the broader chemical engineering community.

Professor Ogunnaike was a remarkable person to know and to work alongside. He was a friend, a mentor, a tremendous scholar, and an enormously dedicated and inspiring teacher. His own personal standards held us to a high bar of work and, at the same time, collegiality. We will miss his smile, his humor, his thoughtfulness, his kindness, and especially his wisdom and guidance.

Please hold Tunde’s wife Anna, their sons, their grandchildren, and extended family in the warm light of your thoughts.

With sadness,

Eric
