Research Associate

Salary Range: £32,100 - £40,720 per annum
Fixed term appointment for 24 months
A Research Associate position is available to carry out research in the area
of deterministic global optimisation, developing novel theory and
algorithms. The objective of the project is to develop reliable and high-
performance algorithms to solve problems of relevance to chemical
engineering practice. This will involve collaboration with academic and
industrial partners. The post is funded by the UK Engineering and Physical
Sciences Research Council. The successful candidate will join a large team
of postdoctoral researchers and PhD students working in related areas and
will work closely with Professor Claire Adjiman.
The successful candidate will have expertise and experience in at least two
of the following: nonconvex optimisation, mixed integer optimization,
bilevel optimization, parameter estimation, mathematical modeling and
experience in a programming language. Applicants should also be able to
demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability
to exercise initiative and judgement in carrying out research tasks.
Candidates should have a PhD (or equivalent) in chemical engineering,
mathematics, computing or another relevant topic. The post is available for
24 months, with possibility of extension, starting on or after 1 May 2013.
