Papers are solicited for a special issue of Computers and Chemical Engineering on Energy Systems Engineering, co-edited by Venkat Venkatasubramanian (Purdue University, USA), Michael Georgiadis (University of Thessaloniki, Greece) and Stratos Pistikopoulos (Imperial College, UK).

The aim of the special issue is to bring forth theoretical advances, applications and tools in the field of Energy Systems Engineering within the wider community of process systems engineering. Particular emphasis will be placed on novel modelling frameworks and optimization techniques that systematically explore various aspects of a wide range of energy systems and energy supply chains in a holistic and integrated way. Furthermore, real-life industrial applications, which illustrate the applicability and potential benefits of the integrated approach, are most welcome. Tools which incorporate the theoretical developments, models and methods are also welcome. Topics of interest include (but not limited to):

* Simulation and optimization of energy conversion systems

* Techniques for Energy savings in the process industries

* Environmental impact and sustainability of energy systems

*       Carbon Capture and Storage

* Renewable recourses modelling and optimization

*       Biorefinery supply chains

* Fuel Cell (PEM, SOFC) systems

*       Polygeneration energy systems

*       Urban Energy Systems

*       Energy storage systems

* Modelling and optimisation of heat pumps, refrigeration and air conditioning systems

* The Hydrogen Economy (production, distribution and storage)

* Integrated oil and gas production

* Other energy efficient and clean technologies (combustion, etc)

* Applications and tools for industrial and educational purposes

The deadline for submission of manuscripts is Friday 22 October 2010 with expected publication date in mid 2011. The website for submission to this special issue will formally open by 15 November 2010 http://ees.elsevier.com/cace/).
