Call for Applications: EURO PhD School on Sustainable Supply Chains 2020
Date: July 19−23, 2020
Venue: Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, Portugal
Organized by the EURO Working Group on Sustainable Supply Chains (EWG-SSC) in cooperation with the Operations Research and Logistics group at Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon University and sponsored by the Association of European Operational Research Societies (EURO), the PhD School on Sustainable Supply Chains will be an active forum for PhD students and young researchers to learn how Operational Research methods can support organizations on the design, planning and operation of supply chains towards sustainability goals.
Target Audience: PhD Students interested to get a sound understanding of concepts, methods and tools for the development of Sustainable Supply Chains; motivated to develop OR tools to solve real cases in Supply Chains; wanting to discuss and present research ideas on the topic. Motivated early career researchers may also be accepted if places are available.
Program Contents: Tutorials on selected topics on the interface of operations research and sustainable supply chains; Opportunity to discuss own PhD research with peers and expert (guests) lecturers from the field; Case assignments − PhD students get to work on industry cases; Solutions developed by participants will be presented to industry stakeholders at the summer school.
Poster presentations at the 3rd Conference of the Euro Working Group on Sustainable Supply Chains (SustSC 2020) are highly welcome. SustSC2020 will follow the PhD School taking place from the 23rd to the 25th of July in Lisbon.
Vacancies & Acceptance: There are 30 seats available. Due to the limited capacity there is an application process for those that would like to participate. Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously received support from EURO for other PhD schools.
To apply to the EURO PhD School on Sustainable Supply Chains the candidates should be from a EURO member society country, or studying in a EURO member society country, and need to submit the following documents:

§ Name, affiliation, and email-address
§ PhD program you are enrolled in, current stage of studies, as well as your PhD supervisors’ names
§ Background in Sustainability and in Operations Research
§ Motivation to attend the PhD School
§ Curriculum Vitae
§ Recommendation letter from the PhD supervisor
Application deadline: January 20, 2020
Notification of acceptance: February 28, 2020
Fees & Rights: The fee is 400 €, which covers all accommodation, meals (breakfast, coffee break, lunch and dinner), transport to IST, and social activities.
§ Accommodation is provided in double rooms, but option of single rooms is offered at additional charge.
§ Travel costs should be covered by the participants, either by themselves or through external funding.
§ The fee does not include insurance for participants.
Scholarships will be available for PhD students accepted at the EURO PhD School on Sustainable Supply Chains to participate in the 3rd Conference on Sustainable Supply Chains (SustSC 2020).
