College Park Scholars Environment, Technology & Economy (ETE) and Business, Society & the Economy (BSE) programs will present, “Stirring it Up: How to Make Money and Save the World” with Stonyfield Farm CE-Yo, Gary Hirshberg, on Wednesday, Nov. 9 a 4:30 p.m. in 0130 Tydings Hall. Hirshberg’s lecture is the third in the College Park Scholars Lecture Series and is open to the public.

“We hope this lecture will prove to students that healthy profits and a healthy planet are not in conflict,” ETE Director Becky Archer said. “In fact, dedication to health and sustainability enhances shareholder value.”

As Stonyfield CE-Yo for more than 20 years, Hirshberg has overseen the company’s growth from a 7-cow organic farming school to the world’s leading organic yogurt producer, with more than $360 million in annual sales. Hirshberg has built an international company that successfully balances the challenging line between meeting a company’s business and environmental needs. Hirshberg is also the author of “Stirring it up: How to make money and save the world.”

Hirshberg has won numerous awards for his corporate and environmental leadership, including Global Green USA’s “1999 Green Cross Millennium Award for Corporate Environmental Leadership,” Business Week’s “Most Promising Social Entrepreneurs” and Gordon Grand Fellow at Yale. Stonyfield has also received many business and environmentally focused recognitions under Hirshberg’s leadership.
