Gap Year Positions Available with University of Maryland Department of
Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences
Dr. Osamah Saeedi at the University of Maryland Department of Ophthalmology
is looking to hire two full-time clinical research coordinators and two
full-time research assistants for the 2021-2022 year. Positions typically
span a minimum of 12 months but can be extended as needed. These positions
have a flexible starting date of May or June 2021 and is for current
graduates or graduating seniors. Part-time or full-time employment prior to
May 2021 is possible and encouraged for training purposes. Previous employees
have gone on to medical school and residency at the University of Maryland,
Johns Hopkins, Baylor, and Northwell.
The research coordinator position involves patient recruitment, interfacing
with the IRB, carrying out study procedures, and coordinating patient visits.
Those in the research assistant position will be involved in multiple
clinical research studies, animal studies (non-human primates and rabbits),
and data analysis. Both positions provide individuals with clinical exposure
and the opportunity to present/publish research, with the research assistant
position allowing more time for in-depth scientific research.
Ideal applicants are very organized and have experience with research,
teamwork, and patient interaction. Experience with MATLAB is preferred but
not required for those interested in the research assistant position.
