Summer 2013 Maryland Social Entrepreneur Corps
This summer UMD will launch the Maryland Social Entrepreneur Corps, an
eight-week overseas study and internship program that will enable UMD
students to work side by side with development professionals in designing
and supporting MicroConsignment businesses in rural Nicaragua. The program
will start with an intensive, two-week course on the concepts of social
entrepreneurship, to be taught on the UMD campus from April 15th to the
26th by Greg Van Kirk, co-cofounder of the Social Entrepreneur Corps and a
leading expert in economic development. Students will then travel to
Nicaragua for 8 weeks of additional training and carefully structured,
closely supervised fieldwork. More information about the program may be
found at: http://ter.ps/umdsecorps
Information Session: Greg Van Kirk will visit the University of Maryland
Campus on Tuesday, February 19 to discuss his groundbreaking work,
concepts of social entrepreneurship, and the new Maryland Social
Entrepreneur Corps at 12:00 noon, in room 0100 of La Platta Hall. All
interested students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend.
If you are unable to join us, please contact the Office of Education
