It/That Happened Project
This program is designed to expand UMD students’ capacity for dialogue,
inquiry, reflection and action about critical issues facing their campus and
broader community. Led by a team of UMD student artists and peer dialogue
leaders, The It/That Happened Project uses performance based art in the form
of theatrical plays, spoken word, poetry, visual arts and dance as a platform
to stimulate difficult conversation about pressing issues related to identity
and difference. The ultimate goals of these conversations are to create new
learning opportunities for UMD students to build community and develop ways
to promote a safe and inclusive campus climate through individual and
collective actions.
Do you want to share your story?
The deadline for story submissions is February 23, 2018.

Do you want to join the It/That Happened Project Team?
The It/That Happened Team meets on a biweekly basis over the course of the
fall and spring semesters. If you’re a student artist you’ll be given a
budget to curate and produce performances as well as plan two campus-wide
programs that will both be held in April 2018.
If you’re interested in being a peer educator, you’ll have the
opportunity to facilitate conversation for your peers that use the
performances as a platform to explore their personal histories and
experiences, encourage reflection upon their own social beliefs and creation
action steps to build community and foster inclusion.
