Summer Undergraduate Research Program
Bioinformatics and Computational Genomics
Johns Hopkins University
McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine

The internship program will provide hands-on research experience as part of
ongoing research projects with bioinformatics and genomics faculty in the
Institute of Genetic Medicine. Current areas of research include analyses
of highthroughput
sequencing data to determine markers of disease, characterize genes
and their variations in species such as human and mouse, reconstruct gene
networks, and assemble and analyze genomes. The program involves full-time
research (40 hours / week) for 10 weeks during the Summer 2013, between May
20th and July 26th, but we can make accommodations if you need to start a
bit
later. Wages will be approximately $11 / hour for undergraduates and $9 /
hour
for high-school students.

How to apply: The program is open to undergraduates (including following
their
senior year), as well as exceptional high-school students. To apply, email
the
following to [log in to unmask], with the subject line ŒBioinformatics
internships¹: i) an up-to-date resume; ii) a one page (maximum) statement
of
interests outlining your goals for this internship; and iii) current
college (for
undergraduates) or high-school transcripts (unofficial transcripts are
acceptable).
In addition, please arrange to have a letter of recommendation from a
teacher or
mentor emailed directly to the address above. All application materials
must be
sent in PDF format. For full consideration, applications must be submitted
by
March 15, 2013 (applications will be considered until the positions are
filled).
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
