Now beginning its seventh year, Girls Excelling in Math and Science of Prince George's County (GEMS of Prince George's County or GEMS) is an after-school enrichment program designed for girls enrolled in Prince George’s County middle schools. The curriculum ranges across the sciences with the emphasis on the natural sciences. Outstanding University of Maryland undergraduates serve as GEMS mentors and role models and facilitate the activities.
At this time GEMS is recruiting for 3 volunteer site-coordinators for Fall 2012. These would be upperclassmen or graduate students who serve as the face of GEMS in the schools, with a commitment of approximately 6 hours/week. Two of those hours correspond to the time when the program meets in school:
- Tuesdays 4:30-6:00 pm for the William Wirt site coordinator,
- Thursdays 3:00-5:00 pm for the Buck Lodge site coordinator,
- Thursdays 4:30-6:00 pm for the Nicholas Orem site coordinator.
If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Edna Crocker <[log in to unmask]> or Raluca Rosca <[log in to unmask]>. To apply, send a CV and a short expression of interest. Applications received by Sept 12, 2012 will be given first consideration.
