Subject: Second Student Assistant position - Entomology

Description:
DEPARTMENT OF ENTOMOLOGY

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Student Assistants
Full-time, summer months

Description:
Positions are available for undergraduate assistants (paid interns) to assist
with two scientific field projects. Agricultural intensification which
includes a heavy reliance on chemical inputs is a major contributor to
beneficial insects and pollinator decline as well as greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions. This project proposes to investigate more ecofriendly production
practices such as using organic products and conservation practices to help
enhance populations of pollinators and other beneficial organisms and reduce
GHG emissions, weed and insect pest levels.
Our long term aim is to reduce chemical use in food production systems and
associated environmental risks; and increase the number of producers engaged
in local and regional food systems that use more ecofriendly practices.
Duties will include mainly plot maintenance with some weeding, data
collection on pollinator diversity, insect and weed levels.

Qualifications:
Ability to work outdoors and an interest in field science/research a must.
