Subject: Sign up for MATH299R: Ripping Logic at the Seams!

Description:
Do mathematical objects exist? If so, in what way, and how are we allowed to
reason about them? How do our answers to these questions affect our
mathematics?

Mathematicians have been arguing over the mathematical and philosophical
foundations of math for as long as math has been around. Ripping Logic at the
Seams: The Philosophical Foundations of Math is a 1-credit student-initiated
course about the exciting interplay between mathematics and philosophy. The
key idea is that our philosophy informs which axioms we should accept (if
any), what math we should do, and how we are allowed do it.

Math 299R meets Fridays from 3:00-3:50 in ESJ. We recommend MATH 141 and some
exposure to proofs. We will have discussions, lectures, student
presentations, and even a guest speaker. Hope to see you there!
