Hello Terps,

Interested in Education and Diversity? Be a mentor for a day with Pre-College Programs! This year on Maryland Day, Pre-College Programs will be taking our students to explore Maryland Day activities and we need your help.

Pre-College Programs in Undergraduate Studies is the umbrella organization for two college preparatory programs operating on campus --- the Upward Bound Program and the Upward Bound Math and Science Program. Students who have participated in these programs have gone on to attend college, and many have received college scholarships. The students come from a wide range of backgrounds, and many are recent immigrants. The staff of Pre-College reflects the diversity of its students and many come from similar backgrounds.

The University of Maryland Upward Bound Program is a federally and state funded educational program. It is designed to provide academic and counseling assistance to capable, high school students with the purpose of preparing them to pursue post-secondary education. The Maryland Upward Bound Program is one of the largest and longest funded programs in the area and is often cited as a model for emulation by other institutions. The Upward Bound Program serves as a supplement to its participant’s secondary school experiences. It provides an opportunity for the student to improve his/her self-esteem and to grow academically and socially.

As part of the Upward Bound program students attend Saturday Academy sessions each Saturday to help improve them academically, and on Saturday, April 28th we will be taking them to explore our campus for Maryland Day and we need volunteers to be mentors for a day and take a small group out on campus for planned activities. The program would run from 8:30am - 1:30pm. If you are interested in volunteering please contact us at [log in to unmask]
