HJF is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support the Pharmacology Department
located at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, MD. HJF
provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to
Pharmacology Department.
The incumbent will provide routine semi-technical work involving a variety of
laboratory support duties. Work involves performance of a variety of
laboratory tasks of minimal to medium complexity to assist in the maintenance
and operation of a research or analytical laboratory.
Responsibilities:
Assists in performing animal experiments: routine animal handling, animal
surveillance, animal experiments, and animal tissue harvesting.
Prepares reagents, solutions, and culture media.
Assists in culturing primary and immortalized mammalian cells.
Assists in performing qRT-PCR experiments.
Performing western blots and immunohistochemistry.
Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies.
Assists in routine laboratory maintenance.
Keeps a daily, detailed notebook on laboratory activities and findings.
Assists in conducting semi-routine experiments and analyses.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: knowledge of basic laboratory
equipment and supplies; ability to follow detailed instructions; ability to
handle multiple tasks; must have excellent writing and verbal communication
skills to work within a laboratory team; must have standard computer skills
(MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint; Adobe acrobat; EndNote). Must have knowledge and
experience for performing western blots.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Associate’s degree, college level
lab course work may be considered to meet this requirement.
Minimum Experience: 0 to 2 years of laboratory experience.
Physical Capabilities: Handles glassware and chemical solutions.
Work Environment: Laboratory environment.
Background: Eligibility to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC); eligibility to
obtain and hold a Public Trust background.
