Program Summary
The University of Maryland Scholars Summer Research Program builds on the
strengths of two great institutions by enabling outstanding University of
Maryland, College Park (UMCP) undergraduates to become engaged in summer
research projects led by top faculty in the School of Medicine at the
University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). The program provides participating
students with in-depth involvement in significant research and professional
mentorship in challenging settings. The program also introduces highly
talented UMCP undergraduates to the MD degree program, the vast array of
graduate degree programs, and the MD/PhD and MD/MS degree opportunities at
UMB.

Program Activities
In addition to conducting research guided by faculty mentors, scholars will
participate in the full range of summer research training activities
sponsored by Office of Student Research of the School of Medicine, including
research-related training, lecture and seminar series related to biomedical
research, Orientation, Mid-Summer Retreat, and Student Research Forum.
Scholars will have many opportunities to interact with other undergraduate
students, MD and graduate students, other health professional students, and
faculty in various summer research programs and settings at UMB.

Stipend: $4,500

Time and Duration: Summer Research - 10 weeks of full time commitment (at
least 40 hours per week) in the summer after the end of spring semester and
before the start of fall semester.
Standard 10-week research period begins on May 26 and ends on July 31, 2020.
If permitted by research mentor, student may take days off and make up missed
days prior to the fall semester, provided that attendance requirements for
summer programming are satisfied. Summer Programming - May 26 to July 31,
2020.

Deadline to Apply: February 3, 2020

Eligibility:

1. UMCP students currently in their second or third year of studies
(Sophomore or Junior).
2. Majoring in any science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field.
3. GPA Minimum GPA of 3.2 (cumulative) with strong science preference. GPA of
3.5 or greater preferred.
