Subject: 3 credit course offered Summer I Session: BSCI338R Darwinian
Medicine: Disease as an evolutionary process

Description:
Thinking about taking a class this summer? BSCI 338R Darwinian Medicine:
Disease as an evolutionary process is offered Summer Session I.
Special Topics in Biology; Darwinian Medicine
Credits: 3 Counts towards GENB, ECEV and PHNB specialization areas.
We look at disease as an evolutionary process using evolutionary theory to
investigate the natural history of organisms. We’ll discuss how this is
related to the scientific treatment of disease and other medical issues. We
put emphasis on the role pathogens have played on our genetic diversity, the
physiology of our immune responses, and the evolutionary arms race between
human hosts and their pathogens. One course project will include designing
the perfect murder using a pathogen of your choice, a human host and the
evolutionary principles we discuss in class.
