Subject: Humpback Whale Internship in Hawaii

FIELD RESEARCH ON THE HAWAIIAN HUMPBACK WHALE - JAN 4, 2021 - JAN 21, 2021
Two-thirds of the North Pacific population of humpback whales come to Maui
each winter to mate and give birth. Help us with our pioneering vessel impact
research in this critical whale habitat for approximately three weeks in
January 2021.
During this internship:
Learn humpback whale field research techniques
Participate in discussions on the geopolitics of protection
Learn what you can do to help protect the oceans and its inhabitants
Hear talks by various speakers, enjoy a special private whale watch, and
learn about and experience the ancient Hawaiian lifestyle.
If you participate, you may receive college credit for this experience when
taken as an Independent Study Course or Internship Course. Please inquire for
details.
Activities include lectures, readings, videos, discussions and, of course,
data collection on the shore. Shore-based data collection involves tracking
whales and boats with a theodolite and recording whale behaviors.
Arrive January 4, 2021 depart January 21, 2021.
$2950 for this session.
Includes accommodations.
NOTE: Airfare and food not included.
Accommodations are: four to six people in 2 bedroom condominiums.
