Greetings all,

This week is National Public Health Week and the School of Public Health has
several events that we hope you'll consider participating in.  See below.

Monday, 4/7, Nyumburu Cultural Center Networking Reception
11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., Friedgen Family Student Lounge
Meet and network with Center faculty and staff and enjoy food and
refreshments.

Tuesday, 4/8, Public Health Research@Maryland Day
8:45 a.m.-3:45 p.m., Stamp Student Union
Keynote lectures by former Surgeons General David Satcher and Richard
Carmona. Explore and discover how students, universities, and communities are
developing new tools and leadership strategies to address the public health
challenges of the 21st century. Topics include the ACA, HIV/AIDS, cancer
prevention, tobacco control and physical activity.

Wednesday 4/9, Portraits of Social Change Exhibit and Reception
10-11 a.m., SPH Lobby, exhibit from April 7-11 in SPH Lobby
Portraits of Social Change will be on exhibit in the SPH lobby all week. Meet
the UMD Half the Sky Movement president and artist Melanie Oppenheimer during
a bagel reception Wednesday.

Thursday, 4/10, Test Your Health Literacy Booth
9:30 - 4:30 p.m., Stamp Student Union
The Horowitz Center for Health Literacy will host an interactive booth at the
Stamp Student Union that offers health information, activities and prizes.

Friday, 4/11, National Launch of the 2014 Town Hall Meetings to Prevent
Underage Drinking
10-11:15 a.m., Friedgen Family Student Lounge
Learn more about the prevalence and consequences of underage drinking, and
effective prevention strategies. The townhall is sponsored by the Substance
Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Office of the Surgeon
General, and the Maryland Collaborative to Reduce College Drinking and
Related Problems.

Friday and Saturday, 4/11 and 4/12 Gymkana Homeshow
7 p.m., Comcast Center
The UMD Gymkana Troupe is hosting its 67th annual gymnastic exhibition,
showcasing high-flying acrobatic circus performances by the troupe’s 80+
members. Based in the School of Public Health, Gymkana has a community
outreach mission and serves to promote healthy, drug-free living.
