Subject: Federal/Global Semester Applications

Description:
Think a career in government and public service is only for government and
politics majors? Think again! Federal agencies, nonprofits, think tanks, and
policy-related organizations are interested in your scientific expertise as
they confront pressing issues in healthcare, cybersecurity, sustainability,
and science diplomacy. The Federal Semester Program and Global Semester in
Washington, D.C. offer you a chance to take your knowledge and skills out of
the classroom and apply them in the real world. Apply by April 6 for first
round consideration!
Join a lively, engaged, and motivated student community! Both programs
combine a fall seminar in an issue area with a spring internship in
Washington D.C. Some of our concentrations include Science Diplomacy, Energy
and Environment, Health Policy, and Responses to Global Challenges. Past
internship locations include the National Institutes of Health, Department of
Energy, House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology; Aerospace
Industries Association; the White House Office of Science and Technology
Policy; and the Department of Health and Human Resources. Year-round
activities include trips to Capitol Hill and federal agencies, professional
development workshops, and conversations with policymakers. The programs also
feature one-on-one assistance in writing resumes, obtaining internships, etc.

Students who successfully complete program requirements will earn a notation
on their transcript!
For details and an application form, go to http://federalsemester.umd.edu
and/orhttp://globalsemesterdc.umd.edu or contact our office: 2407 Marie Mount
Hall, 301-314-0261. Fill out just one application and rank your choices
across the two programs. Applications preferred by Monday, April 6. Rolling
admissions thereafter.
