Subject: $150 Scholarship to Teach Science or Math, TLPL 101

Description:
This course encourages students to think deeply about what it means to learn
and teach science and math. The main goals are to begin to understand the
teaching profession, the complexity of the classroom, and start to develop
teaching practices that are responsive to student ideas. The course requires
that you observe a local elementary school teacher twice and then teach two
science or math lessons. Yes, that's correct. You are required to be in the
elementary school a total of four times. We suggest that you allow a 3-hour
window to include travel time, set-up, and wrap-up when teaching the lessons.
All of the schools are on the UM shuttle line. A background check is
required. TLPL 101 meets for one-hour and twenty minutes once a week.

What are the benefits of the course?
Improve your communication skills
Improve your organization skills
Have an experience that you can share in an essay when applying to
professional or graduate schools
