Subject: Internship Opportunity with Viet Nam Medical Assistance Program

Description:
Organization & Job Description:

The Viet Nam Medical Assistance Program seeks to improve the health of the
Vietnamese community in the U.S. and in Vietnam by working with healthcare
professionals, governments, students, and partner organizations to deliver
health education and healthcare services to those in need. VNMAP aims to
improve health literacy of Vietnamese Americans in the local community by
hosting health fairs and educational events addressing hepatitis B, breast
cancer, and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Since 2010, VNMAP has worked with
local government agencies and pharmaceutical companies to provide a hepatitis
B education, screening, and vaccination program (SMASH-B) in the D.C./MD/VA
area. In Vietnam, VNMAP operates a medical clinic to treat underserved
populations and conduct public health research (PrimCare).

The intern will work on a small, multidisciplinary team to plan VNMAP's
annual fundraising banquet. Interns will have the opportunity to gain
experience in fundraising and outreach through a nonprofit organization. At
the conclusion of this 3-month internship, interns may extend their
internship with a different team (SMASH-B, PrimCare, Finance, Public
Relations, Human Resources, etc.)

Roles & Responsibilities:
- Create and implement fundraising ideas
- Reach out to local businesses to seek partnerships and sponsorships for
events.
- Reach out to potential keynote speakers.
- Reach out to performance arts groups and organizations.
- Assist with other aspects of event planning, including preparing
advertisement materials (print and digital)

Qualifications:
- Fundraising experience and/or event planning experience. Lack of experience
can be substituted with demonstrated capability to excel at roles &
responsibilities
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Computer graphic design capabilities, bonus
- Vietnamese language competency, bonus
- Interest in learning about nonprofit work and community health, preferred

This opportunity requires a commitment between the starting date (immediately
upon recruitment) and early June 2015.
