Job Description
For more than 130 years, Lilly has been dedicated to meeting the health
care needs of people in the United States and around the world. We address
these needs primarily by developing innovative medicines—investing a higher
percentage of our sales in research and development than any other major
pharmaceutical company. If you are interested in being considered for
employment with a “Best in Class” Pharmaceutical company, please review the
following opportunity:
Postdoctoral Scientist - Chemometrics
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist experienced in
the area of chemometrics to study the feasibility of applying multivariate
latent variable modeling methods, such as principal components regression
(PCR) and partial least squares (PLS), for product scale-up and product
transfer between pharmaceutical production lines. The basis of the
research will be in direct application of Professor John McGregors
(McMaster University) concept of applying empirical latent variable
modeling via mining of existing historical databases and using very limited
design of experiments. The role is cross functional in nature, requiring
regular interactions with Analytical Scientists, Process Chemists,
Pharmaceutical Scientists, and Statisticians. Over the course of this
assignment, there will be a variety of opportunities for publication in
peer-reviewed journals and presentations at major conferences.
KEY OBJECTIVES/DELIVERABLES:
Develop a systematic approach in applying multivariate latent variable
modeling methods, PCR and PLS, for product scale-up of both Drug Substance
and Drug Product as well as the effective transfer of the scaled-up process
between production sites.
Pilot this systematic approach to a product currently under development on
a scale-up campaign ranging from small scale development through full scale
manufacturing.
Apply this methodology to an existing commercial manufacturing process to
confirm this approach is valid on an existing product.
Transfer knowledge obtained in applying this approach to future scale-up
campaigns between production sites.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,
Statistics, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
A strong background in process chemometrics and database
structures/informatics.
Expert knowledge in PCA, PLS, PLS-DA, SIMCA, and DOE along with working
knowledge of commonly used software packages (e.g., Excel, JMP, Pirouette
and MATLAB).
ADDITIONAL SKILLS/PREFERENCES:
Working knowledge of SQL and various VBA programming languages highly
desirable.
A strong understanding of analytical instrumentation, process automation
and optimization theory is a plus.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
