Curious about the iSchool's Short Term Study Abroad Program? Come learn about LBSC708S -- International Opportunities in Library and Information Studies: Munich, Germany, which will be offered in July 2009. An information session is scheduled for Wednesday, October 29, from 4:15 - 5:15 PM in Hornbake 4113.

Students will travel to Munich, Germany to study at the International Youth Library (IYL), which houses the largest collection of international children’s literature in the world. Since 1983, the IYL has been housed in Blutenburg Castle in the Obermenzing section of Munich. The Castle, which dates from the 15th century, offers a place to work and study for visitors from around the world. During their time at the Library, students will have the opportunity to conduct independent research, or to work collaboratively with IYL staff members to complete a project that will support the Library’s mission and operations.

In addition to working at the Library, students will visit the Bavarian State Library, one of the world’s leading research archives; travel to Chiemsee, Bavaria’s largest lake and site of King Ludwig II’s Palace of Herrenchiemee; visit Ludwig’s best known castle, Neuschwanstein; travel to Bad Tölz, a medieval spa town at the foot of the Alps; and explore Munich’s museums, galleries, parks, and markets.

The dates of the course will be July 17-August 9, 2009. The cost is expected to be approximately $2,995, which will cover tuition, housing, local transportation in Germany, most meals, entrance fees, application fee, and course materials.
