*Educational Requirements:*Four years of college or an equivalent
combination of education and related experience that demonstrates the
necessary skills and abilities for the position.
*Position Requirements:*At least 2 years of library experience using
OCLC, ALADIN, or similar automated library system. This position
requires advanced extensive knowledge of technical rules and standards
for library cataloging, including national cataloging rules and
standards, local practices, MARC (Machine Readable Cataloging) tagging,
International Standard Bibliographic Description, metadata, and
structure and coding of both local and national cataloging systems. In
addition, it requires knowledge of ALADIN, the local computerized
integrated library system; OCLC, the international bibliographic
database; and various other software applications. Two years of
supervisory and training experience.

skills. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work independently
and collaboratively. Demonstrated initiative. Ability to sit at a desk
and/or computer for extended hours, read computer screens and use
computer keyboards.
*Description:*Under the general direction of the Cataloging Librarian,
this position manages the daily operations of Cataloging Services to
include the Processing Unit. Cataloging Services perform copy and
original cataloging of newly-acquired library materials, provide quality
control for processed materials, edit and update database records as
needed, and carry out special projects to improve access to library
materials. The Processing Unit oversees preparation of new library
materials for circulation and shelving; and preservation of worn and
damaged library materials.
This position is also responsible for hiring, evaluating, and overseeing
the four full-time Cataloging Specialists and the Processing Specialist
and the part time student assistants. Additionally, the Coordinator
oversees the quality of work and efficient workflow in Cataloging
Services and the Processing Unit, helps to establish priorities, assigns
work, and coordinates training of full- and part-time staff. The
Coordinator assumes responsibility for the routine operation of the unit
in the absence of the Cataloging Librarian. The position requires
self-direction and minimal supervision after initial training.
