Assistant Librarian
Severn School seeks an Assistant Librarian to support the Middle and
Upper School community. Zimmerman Library is a bustling facility with an
active instruction program and a busy population of recreational
readers. Working with the Head Librarian, the Assistant Librarian
participates in library instruction, collection maintenance and
development, cataloging, and web site maintenance. Severn library staff
embraces the changes that are inherent in librarianship and welcome
opportunities to acquire new professional skills. The ideal candidate
will be an energetic, creative librarian who enjoys working with young
adults and who will participate in a variety of school events outside
the library.
Required education: MLS from an ALA accredited Library/Information
School or M.Ed in School Library Media.
Desirable experiences: Some classroom experience with young adults is
preferred. Experience with automated cataloging software, web site
design or maintenance, and a variety of electronic databases is sought.
Familiarity with young adult literature and readers’ advisory services
is preferred. Experience with library-related Web 2.0 applications is
desirable.
