For those interested in intellectual property.
CopyNight is a monthly social gathering of people interested in restoring
balance in copyright law. We meet over drinks once a month in many cities to
discuss new developments and build social ties between artists, engineers,
filmmakers, academics, lawyers, and many others.
CopyNight DC
6:30 PM, Monday, April 27th, 2009
Teaism - 400 8th St. NW (Chinatown or Archives Metro)
(Please note that the 4th Monday of the month is our new monthly meeting
time moving forward.)
We'll devote next Monday's meeting to The Pirate Bay trial. What do you make
of the "King Kong" defense? To what extent is TPB a neutral "information
service"? How does Google differ as an information service? What role does
self-presentation play in litigation of this kind? How does this trial
compare to MGM vs. Grokster?
That's a lot. The Wikipedia page is a good starting point to familiarize
yourself with specifics of the trial:

* I'm going try to bring up the OA issues at UMD during the meeting.
Cheers,
Justin
