Job Vacancy Description: The Office of Information Technology, Library
unit has a need for a full-time Head Librarian (Reference), position
#3536 to work scheduled hours that include Monday through Friday from
8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., must be flexible to adjust schedule if necessary.
Non-Bargaining. Participation in a retirement plan is a condition of
employment. Starting salary is $61,547 - $83,096 per year. Online

Job Summary: Directs and manages daily operations of the Rockville
Campus Library, as well as, all aspects of the Library’s facilities to
ensure availability of and access to its resources and services that
support the College’s instructional mission. Directly supervises and
evaluates the performance of all librarians and the Library Assistant
Supervisor (who directly supervises and evaluates the Library
Assistants) for a total of 20 staff positions working in the Library.
Oversees the provision of reference services, collection development,
library instruction programs and other user services to students,
faculty, staff and the college community at large, to facilitate
information literacy and student success. Manages and oversees all
aspects of IT-related library needs, including the use of the IT
Training Rooms. Provides input to budget requests and allocations and
oversees the expenditures as allocated. Serves as a team member on
library leadership committees to address issues from a collegewide
perspective and to participate in strategic planning. Directs and
manages the Archives Services Collegewide. May provide leadership to a
Collegewide committee.
Education & Training: Position requires an MLS/MLIS/MSLS from an ALA
accredited institution. As a condition of employment, an official
transcript of degree is required at the time of employment.
Qualifications: Must have excellent analytical, organizational,
management and leadership skills; excellent interpersonal, coaching,
supervisory and team building skills, as well as, public relations
skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and be able
to demonstrate creativity in problem solving. Must be able to work in a
collaborative group structure and have the ability to plan projects and
work activities. The position requires knowledge of and experience in
academic library practices and procedures, including instructional and
information technologies. In addition, the individual must be aware of
trends in academic libraries and the use of Web-authoring and multimedia
tools such as XHTML or Dreamweaver, LibGuides, and Camtasia.
Experience: Position requires a minimum of three years of successful
library management and supervisory experience; academic library
management is preferred. Experience with Mariner or project management
software is desired. Experience in managing collegewide archives
services is preferred. Knowledge of or experience in the use of
Web-authoring and multimedia tools is desired. Experience in renovation
activities is desired. Experience working in a multi-cultural
environment, with ESOL and developmental students is highly desired.
Experience with reporting tools such as MS Access or SQL is preferred.
Academic library experience is desirable.
