History Associates is seeking an intern to process a small collection
(approximately 5 feet). The collection is stored at History Associates and
the work will be supervised by a History Associates archivist. The
collection, which lacks original order, includes letters home from the
front, documents, photographs - loose and in albums, memorabilia, newspaper
clippings, and framed items. This is an ideal project for someone seeking
experience processing a variety of materials.
Intern Tasks
1. survey the collection, develop a processing plan for arranging and
rehousing the collection, and identify supplies required for project
2. implement the approved processing plan
3. create the finding aid
Intern Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a graduate student in library science, history, or
related field, with an interest in working with archives collections.
Demonstrated understanding of archival principles and demonstrated ability
to arrange and describe archival manuscript collections is required. Strong
organizational and communication skills (oral and written), and the ability
to work independently are preferred.
Stipend
The project requires approximately three weeks full time work, the stipend
for the project is $1,200. Progress payments will be made upon completion
of each task listed above. The individual will be paid as an independent
contractor, and will be responsible for payment of all federal, state and
local taxes.
Schedule
Work can be completed any time between now and October 1, 2009. Work may be
conducted between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Work site is
located within walking distance of the Rockville metro station. A mutually
agreeable work schedule will be developed with the selected individual.
