POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
Reporting to the Head of Information Services, the Information Services
Librarian works as one of a team of ten librarians. The Information
Services Librarian provides both traditional and online reference services,
library and related research instruction, and information literacy services.
This Librarian will collect print, electronic and multimedia resources in
selected disciplines and provide tailored discipline-related services to
faculty and students in those departments of the College and related work as
assigned. It should be noted that the work schedule during the academic year
includes participation in the regular weekend and evening rotations.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications Requirements:
ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS for appointment as instructor; Additional MA/MS and
or Ph.D./Ed.D. for appointment as Assistant Professor;
Post-MLS/MLIS experience in integrated library systems, network management,
online searching, reference and library; excellent interpersonal skills; a
commitment to innovative and effective user-centered services; knowledge of
current trends in scholarly communication and information technologies;
superior oral and written skills; ability to work effectively on shared
projects and department and college committees. The successful candidate
will show evidence of productive teamwork, creativity, initiative, and
flexibility, and the ability to meet the publication requirements for tenure
and promotion.
Preferred Qualifications:
One or more years of related professional work experience, preferably in an
academic library. Knowledge of and experience with current instructional
theories and principles applicable to various types of online instruction or
e-learning, preferably in a higher education context. Preferred skills
include experience with instructional design, digital video, podcasting,
and/or Web design is highly desirable.
Please note: The subject area of the undergraduate degree or the subject
masters is open, but preference may be given to candidates with a background
in educational technology, instructional design, online learning, or a
related field, or with a subject background in the sciences.
