Digital Collections Assistant
Duties, Responsibilities & Minimum Requirements:
Under the direction of the Digital Collections Librarian, the Digital
Collections Assistant assists with procurement, cataloging, and
maintenance activities relating to digital collections at the Georgetown
Law Library. The Digital Collections Assistant aids in cataloging and
archiving Web-based publications; editing metadata in OCLC’s CONTENTdm
system; uploading, describing, and coordinating the submission of
scholarly content in the Law Center’s digital repositories; procuring
and uploading into a local database cases and decisions relating to D.C.
historic preservation law; and updating catalog records for electronic
government documents and other items in the Law Library’s collections.
Additionally, the Digital Collections Assistant may assist with
digitization activities, including image capture, metadata generation,
and uploading images to the library catalog; administrative tasks, such
as monthly report generation; and CONTENTdm web interface customization.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
in database management, digital imaging, cataloging, and/or metadata
assignment required. Knowledge of MARC and OCLC systems, and some
knowledge of metadata standards, such as the Dublin Core element set,
digital imaging standards, and/or PHP scripting language, is preferred.
The successful candidate will have proficiency with Windows-based
applications; a willingness to learn new systems and technologies; a
commitment to providing access to legal, scholarly, and government
materials; and solid communication skills (written and oral).
