Post-doctoral or Post-masters Research Associates in Process Modeling
and Simulation, Computational Science Division, Office of Research and
Development, National Energy Technology Lab (NETL), U.S. Department of
Energy, Morgantown, WV

Project Description: 
Immediate opportunities for graduate and postdoctoral research in
process modeling, simulation and optimization, in the Process & Dynamic
Systems Research Group (PDSRG) of the Computational Science Division
located within the Office of Research and Development at the National
Energy Technology Lab (NETL). The positions will support research in the
energy-water nexus comprising the interaction of water management, power
generation and carbon capture and sequestration. 

Successful candidates will have a proven track record of developing
process models using commercial process simulators such as Aspen Plus®,
Aspen Dynamics®, Pro II®, Hysis®,  Unisim® or similar programs. The
ideal candidate will also have experience with process economic
estimation software, optimization, heat and mass exchange networks, and
modern software development languages such as C++, Fortran, and/or
Visual Basic. Previous experience with fossil energy systems, carbon
capture technology, and/or water treatment processes is a plus.
Demonstrated experience with the development of large, complex process
simulations would also be beneficial. 

Successful candidates will join a team of researchers looking at
various aspects of the energy-water nexus. In addition to excellent
communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a
diverse, multidisciplinary team, successful candidates will have
demonstrated sustained initiative, innovation and commitment to

Applicants should clearly state relevant experience and skills,
including their level of proficiency. When possible, supporting
information, such as papers, thesis/dissertation and simulation files
should be made available.

U.S. Citizenship is required. A Masters or Ph.D. degree in chemical
engineering, environmental engineering or a closely related discipline
is required. For this appointment, the appropriate degree must have been
completed and granted by the university at the time of starting the
appointment. Applicants cannot have received the most recent degree more
than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all
degree requirements before starting their appointment. 

Salary & Benefits:
Salary for postdoctoral research associates range from $55,000 to
$75,000 per year depending on qualifications and experience. Salary for
post masters research associates range from $36,800 to $45,000 per year
depending on qualifications and experience. The position includes paid
health benefits and a relocation benefit.
