Digital Archive Intern, Human Rights Campaign
The Marketing Department at the Human Rights Campaign is responsible for the organization’s marketing efforts including branding, creative direction and services such as the website, publications and advertising. This marketing internship focuses on our digital archive, offering an opportunity to preserve the history of the organization and enhance your library skills.
Responsibilities:
The Digital Archive Internship consists of significant photo and data processing. Responsibilities will entail a mix of administrative and substantive work experience, including:
• Scanning and editing photographs as well as making adjustments to the resulting digital files in Adobe Photoshop to optimize the files' public presentation on the web.
• Recording metadata about the digital files through the Portfolio cataloging software.
• Writing descriptions and ensure the accuracy of information through research.
• Responding to internal requests for information.
• Other administrative duties as needed.
Qualifications:
• Major or advanced degree in library sciences.
• Experience producing and organizing digital images including scanning of reflective media and digital assets management.
• Knowledge of and experience with archival procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to work under supervision, as well as independently, and to meet deadlines.
• Interest in digital preservation of files.
• Strong writing skills, a strong command of English spelling and grammar;.
• Proficiency and experience with Photoshop and general computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Demonstrated interest in gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues.
Outcomes:
• Interns will gain hands-on experience in non-profit work.
• Interns will utilize and develop their archiving skills.
• Interns will expand their understanding of issues affecting the LGBT community.
Other:
• This is an unpaid internship. Credit is available upon request.
• All internships are based out of our offices in Washington D.C. HRC does not provide housing for our interns.
