The 2009 Rare Book School (RBS) scholarship application is now
available online. Applications will be accepted until 5pm, 1
September 2009.
The usual rules apply: students apply for a scholarship generally,
rather than for any particular RBS course. Successful applicants in
the fall 2009 competition may then use their scholarships for any RBS
course offered in 2010 or 2011 to which they are subsequently
admitted. Applications are particularly welcomed from those at the
beginning of a bookish career, whether as academic, antiquarian
bookseller, binder/conservator, or rare book/special collections
librarian -- or someone in training to become one of the above.

conditions governing RBS scholarship awards.
The current Scholarship Committee comprises:
Melissa Mead (Digital and Visual Resources Librarian, University of
Rochester) chair, through 2009; Vic Zoschak (Tavistock Books, Alameda,
CA) through 2009; Libby Chenault (Librarian, Rare Book Collection,
University of North Carolina) through 2010; and Ryan L. Roth (Program
Director, RBS) through 2011.
RBS offers five-day, non-credit courses at various times of the year
on topics concerning old and rare books, manuscripts, and special
collections. Most of the courses take place in Charlottesville,
Virginia, where the school is based. Courses that require access to
specialized collections are offered not only in Washington, DC, but
also in New York City (at the Grolier Club and Morgan Library &
Museum) and in Baltimore (at the Walters Art Museum).
