The Broadcasting Archives of the University of Maryland Libraries is
offering two part-time positions (10-20 hours per week) for graduate
students who are interested in assisting the staff with day-to-day
departmental tasks, serving on a library information desk, answering
reference questions, and processing manuscript and archival collections.
Students will assist in regular operations of the department, such as
continuing the processing of various collections among its holdings.
Tasks will include preliminary survey and inventory work on collections,
carrying out basic conservation treatment during certain processing
stages, and preparing and editing research guides to collections. The
students may also become involved in answering reference queries and
providing publicity for collections.
Previous archival training and participation in an archival education
program are preferred but not required. Interest in “real world”
archival work experience and in how archival holdings are made
accessible to researchers is essential. Candidates should have excellent
writing, editing, and proofreading skills. The students will be paid a
starting salary of $8.50-$10.00 per hour depending on previous work
experience. These positions begin as soon as possible; strong preference
for candidates willing to make a commitment for at least two academic
semesters including summer sessions
PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE POSITIONS ARE NOT GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS.
Present funding only allows the department to hire hourly student
assistants.
