Opportunities are available for graduate and postdoctoral research in
process modeling, simulation and optimization, in the Process & Dynamic
Systems Research Group of the Computational Science Division located
within the Office of Research and Development at the National Energy
Technology Lab (NETL) in Morgantown, WV. The positions will support
projects involving modeling and optimization of power generation systems
incorporating carbon capture technologies.
Successful candidates will have a proven track record of developing
process models using commercial process simulators such as Aspen Plus®,
Aspen Dynamics®, Pro II®, Hysis®, Unisim® or similar programs. The
ideal candidate will also have experience with process economic
estimation software, optimization, heat and mass exchange networks, and
modern software development languages such as C++, Fortran, and/or
Visual Basic. Previous experience with fossil energy systems, carbon
capture technology, and/or water treatment processes is a plus.
Demonstrated experience with the development of large, complex process
simulations would also be beneficial.
Successful candidates will join a team of researchers looking at
various aspects of fossil-based power generation systems, incorporating
carbon capture and water management. In addition to excellent
communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a
diverse, multidisciplinary team, successful candidates will have
demonstrated sustained initiative, innovation and commitment to
excellence.
