Inventory Registrar; Office of Research, Survey and Registration
Annual Salary Range: $38,153 - $46,230 progressing to $60,255*
This salary is in accordance with the State of Maryland Executive Order 01.01.2010.11 – Fiscal Year 2011 State Employees’ Furlough and Temporary Salary Reduction Plan.

The Maryland Historical Trust (MHT), an agency of the Maryland Department of Planning (MDP), is seeking an Inventory Registrar for its archives and library, the state’s principal repository for information about Maryland’s architectural, archeological, and cultural resources. Included in the archives is the survey documentation for historic properties and archeological sites listed in the Maryland Inventory of Historic Properties (MIHP) which is a broad-based catalog of information on districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects of known or potential value to the prehistory, history, upland and underwater archeology, architecture, engineering, and culture of the State of Maryland.
The Inventory Registrar has responsibility for management of all architectural and archeological records which comprise the MIHP. This person will work directly with GIS staff in the development of electronic reporting systems and databases related to the MIHP as well as the evolving management of databases, digital images and other data files. The Inventory Registrar has oversight of new research and field data in hard copy and electronic format, as well as existing files for 100,000 historic buildings and 10,000 archeological sites. Responsibilities will include assigning an identifying number for each site and accepting Inventory records for accessioning, cataloging and storage into the library. This person has daily contact with all MHT staff as well as external architectural surveyors, archaeologists, preservation planners and local governments. This person is responsible for providing reference service to staff and the public and for assisting the Administrator of Library Services with aspects of budget planning and technical services.
Requirements include: Bachelor’s degree in architectural history, archaeology, historic preservation, history and library science, or related field. Candidate must have specific knowledge of current database management and electronic reporting systems, computerized file management, and Access and Adobe systems, as well as an overall understanding of historic preservation. This job also requires an extreme attention to detail while understanding the overall importance and relevance of the MIHP to each of MHT’s programs; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and a strong interest in working collaboratively are essential.
