Ancient Stabiae, just three miles from Pompeii, is the largest
concentration of well-preserved seaside Roman villas in the entire
Mediterranean world. The mission of the Restoring Ancient Stabiae
Foundation http://www.stabiae.com/fountation_site/usa/index.html is to
continue excavation and study of Stabiae with the eventual creation of
an in situ archaeological park. Buried and preserved by the cataclysmic
eruption of A.D. 79, the site is 1.8 km long on a cliff-edge that
preserves the views from the villas to the Bay of Naples.
In 2007, Cossard was awarded funding to develop a prototype
comprehensive bibliography on the 250-year history of excavations on the
site. Currently, the bibliography holds 425 monograph records, 100
