Graduate Student Internship in Advanced Process Control and Optimization
ExxonMobil Chemical is searching for two engineering graduate students
pursuing a Ph.D. in the area of advanced process control and optimization
for an internship experience. The target start date is Summer 2011. The
work location is the Baytown Engineering Complex near Houston, TX.
Central Engineering contributes to the design, implementation, and
sustainment of the advanced automation systems at ExxonMobil Chemical
plants that enable processes to run safely, cleanly, and more profitably.
Our engineers design innovative solutions to complex control problems,
develop new tools to help control room operators and engineers better
operate the manufacturing facilities, and implement these solutions in
practice. Our current interests are in scalable model-based estimation,
control, and optimization technologies for increasingly autonomous
During this research focused internship, the student will gain exposure to
the real-life challenges involved with designing innovative advanced
control solutions for large, complex refining and chemical processes. The
business impact of technology solutions will be emphasized. Preference will
be given to candidates whose graduate research is aligned with Core
Engineering's R&D program.
In addition to a research background in advanced process control and
demonstrated high levels of academic achievement, successful candidates
will demonstrate solid technical capabilities, innovative thinking, strong
initiative, and good communication skills.
This search is open until 25 Feb 2011. Interested candidates should apply
