The Information Policy and Access Center (iPAC) within the University of
Maryland, College Park‚s College of Information Studies has an immediate
need to fill two technical support positions that provide vital support to
the center‚s research and policy work:

*1. Website Programmer (front end):*
The ideal candidate will be a creative and collaborative multi-tasker who is
proficient with the Drupal Web platform or at least has expertise with php
and mysql. This position will be expected to support the center‚s various
Website development initiatives, including the implementation of a brand new
center Web presence, set to launch in late May 2011. The ideal candidate
will have a strong background in both Web frameworks (i.e. php, mysql, ruby
on rails, django) and programming languages (i.e. php, python, ruby). Other
desired qualifications include a familiarity with javascript and jquery as
well as scripting languages (i.e. perl, python). Experience with data
visualizations and mapping toolkits and graphic or Web interface design is
also desirable.

Part-time position (approx. 20 hours/week); compensation dependent on
experience

*2. Data Manager/Systems Administrator (back end):*

The ideal candidate will be a reliable team-player and problem solver who
exhibits great attention to detail and organizational skills. The applicant
should also have experience with Web frameworks and both programming and
scripting languages, as well as relational database design. An interest in
data management as well as server (LAMP stack) administration and version
control systems is desirable. Past experience working with various APIs and
statistical software (R and SPSS) is beneficial.

Part-time position (approx. 20 hours/week); compensation dependent on
experience

Potential candidates that feel they possess some combination of the
attributes and skills described in the two positions above are encouraged to
apply. There is some flexibility in the assigned roles between the two
positions.

*More about iPAC:*
iPAC is the result of a merger between two existing College of Information
Studies research centers: the Center for Library and Information Innovation
(CLII: http://www.clii.umd.edu/); and the Center for Information Policy and
E-Government (CIPEG: http://www.cipeg.umd.edu/index.html). This new, merged
center will focus on the fields of information policy, equity of access,
under-served populations and diversity, and cultural institution studies as
applied to academic, public, school, and other libraries; museums; and
archives.
