First announcement and call for papers:

1st IFAC Workshop on Automatic Control of Offshore Oil and Gas Production

May 31st - June 1st 2012, NTNU campus, Trondheim, Norway

http://www.ifac-oilfield.no/cfp.asp

------------------------------------------------------------------

OVERVIEW:

An increasing amount of the known remaining oil and gas reserves are
located in offshore reservoirs. As the more easily accessible
reservoirs are being drained, there is a shift towards exploitation of
reservoirs that are harder to access (increasing sea-depths, remote
locations, arctic), reservoirs with tighter economical margins, and
reservoirs that are harder to drill.

Given this background, the industry is seeing an increased focus on
technologies that imply higher levels of automation and autonomous
operation. At the same time, environmental and safety issues are
becoming more important.

It is timely to bring together control theorists and practitioners
working with issues related to offshore production of oil and gas, for
an open exchange of ideas and to construct a picture of what is the
status of today, and in which direction the application of control
within offshore oil and gas production should be heading.

Focus is on control as a technology applied to offshore oil
and gas production. Application areas of interest include:
- Automated Drilling: Managed pressure drilling, dual gradient
  systems, directional drilling, etc.
- Production Optimization: Coupling of production data and
transmission systems with numerical modeling and optimization
and decision support applications for the reservoir and production
  system.
- Integrated Operations: Control aspects in increasing/automating
cooperation between offshore and onshore environments.
- Subsea Production.
- Smart Wells.
- Autonomous systems/robotics.
- Environmental and Safety Issues.

------------------------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT DATES

- Paper submission: November 1st, 2011
- Acceptance decision: February 15th, 2012
- Final version due: March 31st, 2012
- Early registration deadline: April 1st, 2012

------------------------------------------------------------------

PAPER SUBMISSION

Full papers should be submitted for review through the
http://ifac.papercept.net/ manuscript management system. The papers
will be reviewed by the international program committee.

Final paper submission should be prepared in accordance with the
(double-column, 6 pages) IFAC Elsevier style. Detailed formatting
instructions can be found at http://www.ifac-control.org/events/
information-for-ifac-authors.

Acceptance of a paper will be made in the understanding that at least
one of the authors will attend the workshop to present the paper.

------------------------------------------------------------------

VENUE

The workshop will take place on campus Gløshaugen of the Norwegian
University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway. Trondheim is
the third largest city in Norway. Founded in 997 AD by the Viking King
Olav Tryggvason, the city lies on a bend in the river on the edge of
Trondheim fjord. During the Middle Ages, Trondheim was the capital of
Norway and a major place of pilgrimage. Today Trondheim is a national
centre of technical education, research and development. See
http://www.trondheim.com/ for further information.

Trondheim is easily reached. Trondheim Airport Værnes has direct
flights to Oslo, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Stockholm and further
connections to European and overseas destinations.

INVITED SESSIONS

IFAC ACOOG 2012 solicits proposals for invited sessions to be held as
part of the workshop. An invited session consists of 4 papers,
organized at the initiative of a session organizer. Session topics
must be consistent with the workshop's theme and topics. If you are
interested in organizing invited sessions, please contact the
