The Animal Parasitic Diseases Laboratory, Beltsville, Maryland, is seeking to fill a part-time Biological Science Aid/Biological Technician position to perform general laboratory duties. The student could work full-time over the summer and part-time 16-20 hr/week during the school year. The purpose of the work is to analyze immune and genetic control of responses to infectious respiratory diseases. The student will use immune and molecular techniques: prepares RNA and genomic DNA from pig blood and tissue samples, uses ELISAs and fluorescent bead (Luminex) assays to measure serum cytokine and chemokine protein levels; and assist in preparing samples for analyses of gene expression by quantitative PCR using ABI TaqMan and RNA-seq approaches. The student will use bioinformatic resources to annotate the swine genome and analyze gene expression data. US citizenship required. Position opened until filled.
