A postdoctoral research associate position is available in the Chemical
Engineering Department at Loughborough University, U.K.
The position is available initially for 24 months with the possibility of extension. The starting salary is in the range of £27,428 to £32,750 per
annum (~42,500-50,600 USD).
This research post is within the five years project CrySys – Crystallisation
Systems Engineering - Towards a next generation of intelligent
crystallisation systems, supported by the European Research Council (ERC)
research grant scheme.
The aim is to develop a comprehensive crystallisation monitoring and control
framework and evaluate the strategies on laboratory and pilot scale
crystallisation processes. This will be achieved by developing and
evaluating the Crystallisation Process Informatics System, based on the
development of multidimensional population balance models and the
application of advanced model-based control techniques enhanced by the use
of a combination of process analytical technologies (ATR spectroscopy, Raman
spectrsocopy, image analysis). The system will be used as an intelligent
decision support tool for the automatic feedback control of crystallisation
processes and will be evaluated for the crystallisation of products relevant
to pharmaceutical, food, agrochemical, fine and bulk chemical industries.
The post provides the opportunity for international cooperation via research
stays at leading groups in Europe and USA.
Research experience in population balance modelling of crystallisation
processes, and optimisation-based control are essential. Strong experience
with programming in Matlab is required. A PhD in relevant discipline or
equivalent experience and some experience with the use of process analytical
technologies are desirable.
