Postdoctoral Position in Model Reduction and Uncertainty Quantification for Chemical Systems
We are seeking a postdoctoral associate for a project on *model reduction under uncertainty*
applied to chemical kinetic systems. The successful candidate will work with a team of faculty,
staff, and students from the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Department of
Chemical Engineering, and the MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI). The candidate will also interact
regularly with industrial sponsors. We seek a researcher with an appetite for both fundamental
methodological development and impact on real industrial problems.
A strong background in computational mathematics and numerical modeling is desired.
Candidates should have particular expertise at least one of the following areas: (1) model reduction
for chemical kinetic systems, whether in gas-phase combustion or chemical process modeling; (2)
dynamical systems, model reduction, and multiscale methods; (3) uncertainty quantification,
stochastic modeling, and computational statistics.
Candidates should hold a PhD in chemical engineering, aerospace/mechanical/electrical
engineering, computational science, or applied mathematics. Also important are strong
communication skills and an ability to interact with a range of audiences.
Initial appointment will be for one year, and is renewable.
