Interested in biomedical research? Ever wondered what it takes
to succeed in graduate school and beyond?

If so, then come to the American Society for Microbiology (ASM)
presents: Dr. Karen E. Nelson—Director, J. Craig Venter Institute
(JCVI).

Free food and refreshments from the Maryland Food Co-op and Sbarro’s
Pizza will be served!

When: Monday, April 2 at 5:00PM

Where: Juan Jimenez Room, Stamp Student Union

Dr. Nelson has extensive experience in microbial ecology, genomics and
metagenomics as well as in microbial physiology. Since joining the
JCVI legacy institutes, Dr. Nelson has led several genomic and
metagenomic efforts. She has also been involved in the analysis of the
microbiota of the human stomach and gastrointestinal tract. At this
event, she will discuss her research and offer guidance to students
interested in pursuing microbiology- and biomedicine-related careers.
