Upper School Librarian (Interim)
Randolph School is seeking an upper school librarian for a one year interim position beginning August, 2012.
Education/Experience: The upper school librarian should have an MLIS or MLS degree from a university program that combines academic and professional training in education, school library program experience, collection development and management experience, and information technology skills. The librarian provides a variety of services as a teacher, information specialist, and instructional consultant.
Responsibilities:
* Provide each student with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will incite intellectual probing, growth, and to aid all students in acquiring information literacy skills.
* Engage with faculty to incorporate technology and information resources.
* Prepare and provide instruction for information literacy and technology skill development that integrates with classroom curriculum learning.
* Enlist faculty participation in selecting new materials and adding information skills to lessons.
* Ensure an academic climate conducive to teaching and learning in the library itself.
* Assist in the recruitment and selection of aides and volunteers.
* Maintain systems for maintenance and organization of books, equipment and other materials
* Create and maintain promotional media, such as web site and school newsletters.
* Promote use of professional collections.
* Participate in resource sharing and networking with other libraries.
* Explore current development in the field.
* Coordinate and maintain library budget.
* Examine and select materials to be discarded, repaired and replaced.
* Encourage literacy through library programs including summer reading and book clubs.
* Select, acquire, process and catalog library materials.
* Select and maintain a collection of periodical literature.
* Select and procure online subscription services that best meet the needs of the community.
* Select and acquire audio visual equipment as needed for the faculty and students.
* Maintain orderly circulation and overdue procedures.
* Maintain library policy and submit recommendations of new policy.
