Invitation to NICBR Exploring Careers in a Scientific Environment Symposium
We would like to invite you and any students at your school who are interested in careers in medical, biological research and/or bio-defense to join us for an Exploring Careers in a Scientific Environment Symposium on Thursday, November 15, 2012. The goal of the symposium is to highlight career paths for students while presenting an overview of research being performed on Fort Detrick by the various NICBR partners.
The event is sponsored by the National Interagency Confederation for Biological Research (NICBR), a partnership of government agencies with laboratories within the Fort Detrick- Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research campus, including the US Army, the National Cancer Institute, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Agriculture, the US Navy, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The symposium will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m, with tours extending until 4:00. Sign-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. During the morning, representatives from the various NICBR partner laboratories will introduce the types of potential career paths available at their agencies while describing research programs and opportunities for internships and fellowships. After the morning presentations, participants will have the opportunity to chat with the speakers and obtain additional information during an informal lunch period. Participants will need to purchase their own lunch; a Café is available on location for your convenience. After lunch there will be a panel Q&A session where participants will have the opportunity to obtain more info on career development. Some agencies will offer tours at their various laboratories (Pre-registration for tours is required) in the afternoon. To ensure a safe environment for all participants, pre-registration on our website is required so standard “background checks” can be completed.
Registration Site:
Driving directions to Fort Detrick and parking at the conference center are also on this site. Although the tours are open to both US and non-US citizens, it is essential that everyone register early to provide sufficient time for the clearance process.
The deadline for registration is 5 October, 2012.
Please share this information with your students and colleagues. You may contact Ms. Alice M Jones directly at [log in to unmask] if you would like more information.
We look forward to seeing you at the NICBR Exploring Careers in a Scientific Environment Symposium!
