Position Title: Office Assistant
Job Description:
Provide assistance in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Equity Center. Students will be assigned tasks based on the evolving needs of the office and the particular skills that they bring to the table or desire to develop, as agreed upon with the supervisor. Some of the tasks an Office Assistant might be directed to complete, among others, include to: greet/host guests and answer phones; promote use of our center; manage emails, databases, and weekly newsletters; inform constituents through social media; organize/promote various events and programs; manage a library or other information resources; research various topics; write/edit publications or website material; clean and organize in the center; table at outreach events; prepare mailings; prepare materials and set up rooms/programs; facilitate or speak at groups; develop/distribute promotional materials; or other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
This position requires: Previous knowledge or experience with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or ally issues and populations. Detail-oriented approach and, ideally, past experience with organizing complex projects, programs, or events. Patience and flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances, ability to track and prioritize among several tasks assigned. Maturity and judgement to work both independently as a self-starter and to take direction from supervisors. Strong oral and written communication skills, including comfort representing the office at information fairs and creating a welcoming and responsive environment that creates a sense of community and support for visitors. Ability to maintain any confidentiality that individuals may require. Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. Punctuality and proper attendance.

What month/year is your projected graduation date from UMD?

Eligibility: You must be a student at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Wage: $8.00/hr.
Total number of hours needed per week: 9 to 11 (estimated)
Positions available: One position is available.
Days and hours available: Preferred candidates will have a somewhat flexible schedule Monday through Friday, particularly between 12pm and 8pm.
